SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — A glut of appropriate cannabis is driving Oregon cooking pot costs to rock-bottom amounts, prompting some stressed growers to start out pivoting to a different style of cannabis to create ends meet one that is does not have a top.
Applications for state licenses to cultivate hemp — marijuana’s non-intoxicating relative — have increased significantly more than twentyfold since 2015, making Oregon # 2 behind Colorado one of the 19 states with active hemp cultivation. The market that is rapidly evolving amid skyrocketing need for a hemp-derived extract called cannabidiol, or CBD, seen by many people as being a wellness aid.
With its purified distilled form, CBD oil commands 1000s of dollars per kilogram, and farmers could make significantly more than $100,000 an acre growing hemp flowers to create it. That distillate can certainly be changed into a form that is crystallized powder.
